Burns is an active and disruptive defender, using his quickness to create steals and deflections. His anticipation allows him to jump passing lanes, leading to fast-break opportunities. On-ball, he can pressure opposing guards and stay in front of them. His biggest defensive asset is his ability to recover quickly, even if he gets beaten off the dribble.
