McLaughlin’s Sandee Steele Commits to United Tribes Basketball

Another standout athlete from McLaughlin High School is making the leap to the collegiate level. Sandee Steele, a dynamic 5’6” guard, has officially signed with United Tribes Technical College, continuing her basketball career at the next level.

Steele has been a key player for McLaughlin, making a name for herself with her quickness, defensive pressure, and scoring ability. She has been a consistent force on both ends of the floor, averaging 17.5 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.5 steals, and 2 assists per game in her senior season.

Her ability to create scoring opportunities, coupled with a strong defensive presence, made her a standout prospect for United Tribes, a program that continues to attract top Indigenous talent.

Steele won’t be making the transition alone—she will be joined by McLaughlin teammate Mari Richards, a 6’2” forward who also committed to United Tribes. Richards has been a dominant presence in the post, averaging 11.1 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 3 steals per game.

With Steele’s backcourt skills and Richards’ versatility in the paint, United Tribes is adding two key pieces to its roster for the upcoming season. Their addition further strengthens the program’s reputation as a hub for high-level tribal college basketball talent.

United Tribes, a member of the NJCAA, has been a competitive force in tribal college basketball, consistently developing Indigenous athletes and providing opportunities for student-athletes to showcase their talents on a national stage.

Steele’s signing is yet another testament to the growing presence of Indigenous athletes in collegiate basketball. As the tribal college basketball landscape continues to grow, players like Steele and Richards are leading the way for the next generation of Indigenous hoopers.
