Offensive Strengths:

Delwyn “DJ” Holthusen III is a modern stretch big with a smooth shooting stroke and a skill set built for floor spacing. His ability to knock down shots at a high clip makes him a dangerous pick-and-pop option and a matchup problem for traditional bigs who struggle to defend beyond the paint. His high release and soft touch allow him to shoot over defenders with ease, and he’s just as effective in catch-and-shoot situations as he is trailing in transition for a quick three.

Perhaps his primary weapon is his mid-range, using a reliable face-up jumper and the occasional turnaround shot when defenders close out too hard. He doesn’t operate in bulk in the low post, but he can finish strong when given open looks near the rim. He thrives in offensive systems that emphasize spacing, movement, and ball rotation, making him a valuable complementary piece for high-tempo and pick-and-roll-heavy offenses.

Playmaking & Basketball IQ:

Holthusen plays within the flow of the offense and rarely forces bad shots. He understands his role as a floor spacer and makes smart decisions with the ball. While not a primary playmaker, he can make quick reads and keep the ball moving when pressured. His passing out of the high post is solid, and he knows how to find cutters when defenses overcommit to his shooting ability.

His basketball IQ is evident in his shot selection—he takes high-efficiency looks and doesn’t waste possessions. His ability to recognize defensive rotations and relocate along the perimeter for open shots is a key part of his offensive impact.

Defensive Strengths:

Defensively, Holthusen is provides decent good protection in help situations. His positioning and size allow him to be effective against post-ups and driving guards looking for easy layups.

His biggest strength on defense is his ability to switch onto perimeter players in pick-and-roll situations.  His length allows him to close out effectively on shooters. His rebounding is solid, particularly on the defensive end, as he uses his size to secure boards and start fast-break opportunities with quick outlet passes.
